PreP and PeP

What are PrEP and PEP?

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a drug which, when taken as prescribed, is highly effective at preventing HIV transmission. It must be taken before exposure. The good news is that it's now free on the NHS!

PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is a drug which, when taken within 72 hours of a possible HIV exposure, is highly effective at preventing the contraction of HIV. It is also available on the NHS and can be obtained from a GUM clinic or (in an emergency) A&E.
